Despite the supervisor's warning, Artire can't shake off his doubts about the company's true motives. He starts investigating on his own, looking for clues and talking to other workers who share his suspicions. Meanwhile, Don and whoever is with him are planning their next move against the company and its control over the population's dreams. They have heard rumors about a secret facility where an even more powerful dream-manipulation technology is being developed. If they can destroy it, they might be able to break the hold the company has on the people of Hub1.

As they plan their mission, Don and Artire continue to work together, sharing information and ideas. Artire is torn between his loyalty to his new friend and his fear of getting caught by the supervisor. But his curiosity and desire for the truth drive him forward. One day, while working in the control room, Artire discovers a hidden panel that leads deeper into the belly of the machine where he finds cryptic messages which seem to have been left by his predecessor. Inside, he finds a prototype of the new dream-manipulation technology. Before he can take a closer look at what he found the supervisor interrupts him.

This time the supervisor takes Artire in for interrogation. They want to know whether Artire acted alone or if someone else is involved in the sabotage. Artire refuses to talk, but he knows it's only a matter of time before they break him.Meanwhile, Don and his team prepare to strike. They sneak into the secret facility and plant explosives, ready to blow it up and destroy the new technology. But just as they are about to set off the charges, they are ambushed by security guards. A fierce battle ensues, and Don is fatally wounded.
